Good to know

This is holding equipment, not a cooker. Bring soup up to temperature on the hob first, then transfer it in - 400W will hold 10 litres hot but will not heat it from cold in any useful time. UK food safety guidance is to hold hot food at 63°C or above; set the dial accordingly and check with a probe rather than trusting the thermostat alone. Stir occasionally with thicker soups so the base does not catch.
